The actual Hotel was built in the 16th century as a Jesuit Monastery, in the middle of a century park. It has been a hotel since 1822 and much of the tranquil and historical aura still remains. The hotel name origins from the nymph “Colomeide” (Honey bottom) so called by the Jesuit fathers for its favorable position and for the fertility of its orange and lemon groves.This oasis of tranquility has been the destination for such distinguished travelers as Gioacchino Murat, Johann Wolfgang Goethe, the Duke of Wellington, Hans Christian Andersen etc.
